Aren’t those people eligible for the vaccine now? Why should they quit what is probably a much needed job if they are vaccinated?

Because some of those jobs aren’t even eligible for sick pay and are typically the most overworked inside the building.

Yes. Many of us have had the second shot already.

Having a vaccinated teaching force, combined with APS's mask requirement, cohorting, health screening, distancing, air cleaners, etc, the risk to teachers is insanely low. Yet my 2nd grader's teacher today told her class that she doesn't want to return to school but that APS is making her. Putting aside that this was completely inappropriate information to tell to second graders, where is this fear coming from? She's young and healthy and vaccinated. Elementary is completely cohorted. She doesn't have to do concurrent learning. And her hybrid class is small enough to fit in a single classroom. Why are all these vaccinated teachers so afraid? The data is amazing. These vaccines work terrifically well, with strong efficacy starting shortly after the first dose. I just don't understand.

LCPS Teacher- I just don't want to get anyone else sick. I don't want to get Jane mom or BOB grand[parents sick. It really sucks that we have to go back. I told my 6th graders life is not worth rushing and we shouldn't rush anything and talked to them how school board rush into reopening. there still 1,000 cases a day and we not sure how well vaccine works so yah it won't be easy..

This is an inappropriate conversation for you to have. Keep that to yourself. Now your students know you do not want to be there with them and you are unnecessarily creating a fear for them. All because after almost a year, you have to go back and do your job in-person. Shameful.

It is a TROLL.

We do know how well the vaccine works. We are also learning that vaccinated people are not spreading the virus around.

Don’t respond to trolls.

Would you be saying this if you had a child in 6th grade that is failing? You can't rush life doesn't shouldn't mean you can press pause on education for a year.

Did the pp saying “my 6th graders” mean that she is the parent of 6th graders, or teacher of 6th graders?

We are very sure that the vaccines are EXCELLENT. If you don't realize that, you aren't paying attention.

Here’s an idea... could this be cumulative? Maybe after years of buying their students supplies, snacks, and clothes, then being asked to be a human shield in a shooting, they decided that this was just too much?

Yeah some teachers I've talked to are worried about bringing it home. But if they are fully vaccinated the chances of this are extremely low. VERY LOW. This needs to be talked about more.

We are underselling the vaccine and it's role in disrupting transmission.

If teachers and students were dying in mass, schools would not be open anywhere.

But, they're not. So, schools in every country, and all private schools in America, and many public schools in America have been open for months.

The fear mongering is super unhealthy and unhelpful, and needs to stop.
