I just finished the series and I have a question about the book (I didn’t read it). Did Tully sleep with Johnny in the book? I can’t imagine so easily forgiving them when you literally heard their wild sex. If they did sleep together in the book, is the thinking just that Kate got used to Tullys wild ways since she slept with her brother too? I liked the show but this was the weirdest part and hard to get over!

I'm glad somebody pulled up this thread again because I finally binged this last week after reading the book. I really enjoyed it, in that it was good mindless escapism.

I get why they didn't have Kate's character have the twin boys in the show - she wouldn't have been able to carry on with the PTA dad and the guy from work....society would have judged her and the target audience would have been turned off. Fine for a mom of a teen to do this but not a mom of 3 kids while 2 are still young. But, I agree that a mom of one teen girl wouldn't be so frazzled (laundry laundry laundry!) and would have probably gone back to work earlier.

I think they should have made Maura the daughter have a twin brother - that way he could be old enough to not screw up the plot - he'd be independent and like off at friends' houses and soccer etc. or something - but it would make more sense why Kate was constantly doing laundry, forgetting appointments, and hadn't gone back to work.

I like Katherine Heigl in this. I loved the plot twist about the sexual harasser taking over her show - that will be interesting.

I liked heigl and chalke, but agree with the PP that the personality of the guy who played her emotional crush was off putting. Especially given how fine her estranged Australian husband was. Makes no sense.

They had no chemistry and it was just so clear. A shame, since he had nice chemistry with the Cloud actress on Girlfriend's Guide to Divorce.

Sarah Chalke is on my very last nerve in this. I really can't stand her character as a present day adult. I very much prefer Katherine Heigel's look to Chalke's too skinny, ridiculous glasses, mousy hair and wrinkles.

Yeah, I don't get why they had to make her so haggard. The frizzy hair really drove me crazy. Like she was just SO busy she couldn't even brush it? It was just too over the top, which I guess a lot of it was. I was disappointed. Really wanted to like it but was glad when it was over.

No idea, but I think it hurt the plot. The scene in the first episode where Kate is just slammed doing the laundry...when she has one teenager who could do it herself and an estranged husband who doesn't work at home? Please. At least in the book she had twins that were several years younger than Marah so it made sense that she was super busy as a SAHM. But in the show it was just cringe-worthy.

Same here. There was something very unappealing about him.

I thought they did a fantastic job on the make up for the younger characters. They did a horrible job on old cloud. Oh my, looks like a Saturday night live character.
