My name is extremely unique (it's Irish, with TONS of vowels) and adults do have trouble pronouncing it at first, but it's no big deal. I love having a unique name. Kids, classmates have no problem learning different names.

I know an Irish/Chinese girl who had an Irish first name and Chinese middle name. Both names were very difficult to pronounce and she got tired of correcting everyone. Told me she wished her name was Abigail.

AWFUL! Worse name ever! If you like flower names call her Lily or Rose. Do not let your dh win this battle!

"Worse" name ever? Truly, if you are going to be so judgmental at least be able to spell your insult.

P you are a petty and an ass. I am typing on a phone. You knew what word i was saying although I admit now. I shouldnt have said it was the worse name evrr but if yoir dd is living in America she will have a difficult time.

I'm the ass? As you criticize someone's name choice because it isn't white sounding? Interesting...
Also perhaps in your next attempt at insulting someone consider checking your spelling? grammar? I don't honestly know because you clearly couldn't be bothered to attempt to type properly again, phone or not.

I was unfamiliar with the name and thought " so chill" sounded like a recipe for making the op's dd life harder. I apologized for my calling in "worst name"

Again I am not writing a term paper or will be graded for my spelling and grammer. That still does not mean my opinion doesn't count.

In Mexico, fine. But op should use it as middle name and give her a name the majority of Americans can pronounce.

Azucena (lily) for example?

But I respect that you and DH want to use an indigenous name

500 times a day? What do you do with your life that requires you to spell your name that often?
And regardless, people have to frequently spell even common names. I have a very classic name, guess how many people add an extra I or make it the masculine version without any input on my end?

It's a lovely name. People need to get over their discomfort at not wanting to sound stupid not knowing how to pronounce "ethnic" name. Because that's what it comes down to, truly.

Which of DH's relative is named Xochitl? What? You mean they're all Maria, Alejandra, Juanita, Antonia? Hmm. Interesting.

Can I just say that I hate the name “McKenzie?”

I think you will find more people familiar with the name then you think. At least in big cities. I have known several women named Xochitl in my life and thus knew how to pronounce it. I will say it is one that once you learn it, sticks with you.

Also you know what other American names get discriminated against in the hiring process? Jamal. Carlos. Antoine. Pretty much anything that does sound 100% white. Again. It is what it is.

“It is what it is” is a meaningless statement. Time to let it go.

Dp. I would like proof that Carlos is being dicriminated against. It is pretty common and unlike op's choice easy to pronounce.
