6 am to 6 pm is in no way crazy.
It is if you have to perform surgery.
I’ve known transplant surgeons who routinely pull shifts more that twice that long. Over 24 hours when an organ comes available on their call. 12 hours is nothing.

I don’t know - old money I wouldn’t be surprised if she’s white. If not, my guess is Indian. Does it matter?
My guess is black
I thought Indian, based on the food descriptions.
My guess is big Indian or Persian family.
Indian people don't have great-grandparents in this country.
We've only been allowed to immigrate for the past 40-50 years.

Pretty sure DH's assistant makes more than $120k at a big law firm...
Also is her paycheck AFTER taxes? $12,178 biweekly comes out to $292k....
515 + 120 = 635K, not 655K.
Maybe her dh worked in biglaw after law school and left to do something else - like lots of people. Maybe L is still in it and talking about it and K is saying thank G- d I left. A lot of details were likely edited out (or not included).
This is what the author of the money diary said in the comments:
“A couple things that came up a lot:
Without revealing much more information (I was dying at whoever was trying to find him on the internet), my husband left his big law job when we moved back to DC after my residency. He took a job with better hours and a flexible WFH policy. We're planning on having a baby in the next few years and he will have most of the childcare responsibilities.”
Where is the comment section? I don't see it on the link provided

Why? It sounds like Op and her siblings are all productive members of society. Op is a surgeon for Pete’s sake. With the amount of wealth she has, she could have chosen a much less stressful career and one that did not involve so many years of grueling training. Also, there are different types of family offices. They may not have an entire firm like some very well known wealthy families. Based on this article, we do not know how large the family office is or their level of wealth.
So tired of this. Yet again, its mostly ONLY wealthy people who go to medical school. You cant take an unpaid internship or even a partially paid internship if you arent supported by mommy and daddy. Medical school prep, applications, interviews are all cost prohibitive. FULL STOP. Failing biochem- get a tutor. Dont have time to get groceries- pay for delivery. Dont have time to clean your clothes because you are studying- pay for laundry. Need to be close to the hospital- get an apartment so that you dont waste precious time commuting and can sleep/study more.

My friend’s daughter is a doctor. Her immigrant parents don’t even have an elementary school education.

If they live in Georgetown, could have been a diplomatic family. Or only part of the family is Indian.

I guarantee he’s a Fed. If kids are in the cards they won’t have time for surgeon + Big Law.
I agree that he’s definitely a fed lawyer. Interestingly I know a few fed lawyers married to women who are much higher earners. I think it might be a dad track job.
What fed gets quarterly bonuses? Might be non-profit.
No nonprofit gives quarterly bonuses. Some do year end but not quarterly.
