I’ve known transplant surgeons who routinely pull shifts more that twice that long. Over 24 hours when an organ comes available on their call. 12 hours is nothing.
If she's still up and doing things at 11:15 PM and then she wakes up at 4:45, then she's getting 5 hours of sleep a night? SHould you be operating in that condition? Also if you're still drinking at 11 PM and then you're doing surgery at 6, isn't that a bit like an airplane pilot driving the plane after drinking?

So tired of this. Yet again, its mostly ONLY wealthy people who go to medical school. You cant take an unpaid internship or even a partially paid internship if you arent supported by mommy and daddy. Medical school prep, applications, interviews are all cost prohibitive. FULL STOP. Failing biochem- get a tutor. Dont have time to get groceries- pay for delivery. Dont have time to clean your clothes because you are studying- pay for laundry. Need to be close to the hospital- get an apartment so that you dont waste precious time commuting and can sleep/study more.

My friend’s daughter is a doctor. Her immigrant parents don’t even have an elementary school education.

From the various hints in this piece it is obvious she is generationally wealthy from the DC area which likely means she is white. Paying sorority/fraternity dues to be active in alumni chapters is also a white thing, not just a black thing.
I think the whole article is a bit misleading. If she has a family office, she comes from a very wealthy family and they probably have investment income that is not "salary". She sounded very young in the article, but maybe I am just getting old!

You are really reaching now. Lol. The Indian community is tiny in DC, in all of America actually, it would be well known if there was a 30 something multi-millionaire Indian doctor in DC whose family has been here for a minimum of 80 years. Even writing that out is absurd. India wasn't even an independent country until 1948.
Now if she's Indian and married some old money WASP or a black or Jewish man from generational wealth, that could be plausible but then that townhouse was inherited from his side, not hers.

What fed gets quarterly bonuses? Might be non-profit.
No nonprofit gives quarterly bonuses. Some do year end but not quarterly.
I'm very familiar with the DC legal market. There are a few well respect boutiques that have this pay model. Associates are paid a base salary of $120K and deceive quarterly bonuses that bring them up to big law pay. The pay structure is designed to match the partner pay structure of receiving a quarterly draw. Not common, but certainly not unheard of.
