But while I don't know the details of every split, in the couples I know the women are as likely (maybe more likely) to leave. Most married men in their 50s, even if they are unhappy, are also complacent. They don't tend to be self-sufficient at all, and they also tend to be sliding through middle age with insufficient attention to their appearance.
Meanwhile, most of the SAHMs I know get better and better as their kids age. They have more time for themselves, so they take up hobbies, do volunteer work, exercise, etc. They look good. This is also true for most of the working moms I know. The first 5-6 years are tough no matter what, and I feel like this is when women look the worst and are the most miserable. Then their kids start school, become more independent, and women start thriving.
Based on my experience, it's men who need to be sitting around fretting over whether or not they are good enough partners for their wives to stick around once the kids are grown. The women I know all have their shit together, whether they work outside the house or not.
Agree. Stats are out there, the Silver Wave of divorces are led by the female filing 9 times out of 10. Kids are gone, get rid of the deadweight slob.

Women cheat at almost the same rate as men now. It’s not the same married woman banging all of those married men.
The reasons are the same. Women: emotional dissatisfaction or basic incompetence. Women: boredom or lack of sex. There are exceptions but the reasons are the same. Have not heart the statistic you’re citing and for which groups/age/race/gender/relationship tenure. A gay friend shared that gay men cheat in higher numbers than heterosexual men for different reasons. Have no idea if that stat is true as it was only his anecdotal experience.

The divorce rate for people over 50 has doubled since 1990. My neighbor’s husband blindsided her after raising 5 kids when last one left for college (she was 50) and announced out of the blue that he was leaving. Within a year he knocked up 40-year old with triplets.
Another neighbor’s husband stopped communicating and walked out. Kids all grown.
My roommate in college’s dad left her mom for a mistress our Freshmen year. Her and her older siblings were devastated and felt childhood was a lie.
