47% of peoiple pay NO TAXES.
This would be true, if it were 2009, and the only taxes were federal income taxes.
However, not only is it 2020, but even in 2009, there were a lot of taxes that weren't federal income taxes. And there still are now.
Fair enough, but since the context is the presidential election, it’s safe to assume that we are talking about federal income tax, not sales tax or property taxes or other such things over which the federal government has no direct control. So yes, only the rich pay federal income tax.
Income taxes aren't even the only taxes the federal government levies. Something like 3/4 of people pay payroll taxes, but we always hear only about income taxes because rich people want to whine about the progressive taxes that they pay and not the regressive taxes that hit normal people harder. It's propaganda.
But President Trump wanted to cut payroll taxes too, and the Dems ridiculed that as well. You’re loosing this argument.
No he didn't. He wanted to defer payroll taxes with a vague promise to forgive the tax later. An actual payroll tax holiday plan as stimulus might have gotten support like it did in 2011, but it needed to be real, not a deferral.
I'm not having an argument about tax rates either, I'm pointing out the purpose of the "47% of people don't pay taxes" lie. Given that all you've got is new lies about payroll taxes, I'm not losing.
There was nothing “vague” about his commitment to forgive the payroll taxes. He couldn’t do it on his own though, and there was no way the Dems were going to give him that win, no matter how good it would be for those who need the relief the most.
Then I'm sure you are for raising the minimum wage right? By the way I make less than 50k a year and I pay plenty of taxes. When you say the rich pay the majority of taxes you leave out the part about all the loopholes rich people use to pay a much lesser percentage on their income than the middle class does. Why, our own president who is supposedly well off only paid $750 last year. Are you down with that?Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:
