I think the blond friend also had an affair with Jonathan, was jealous of the other woman (including her spectacular breasts), did it and wanted to frame Jonathan.

The hammer in the violin case is a red herring. Henry found it, thought it was the murder weapon and hid it.

I think he was planning to leave Grace to be w Elena, which is why he made up the story about the trip. Did he go to meet her at 5 that morning and discover her dead, which is why he fled?

I think that if anyone is a sociopath in this, it’s Jonathan’s mother. She clearly blamed her son for the little girl’s death. Of course he shut down and moved away as soon as he was old enough.
