Why can't the PM do the ceremonial stuff in addition to the politics? That's what the POTUS does.
This is an incredible take. The "tradition" and "history" of the British Royal family includes the largest empire on earth, the invention of an entire Christian denomination, the rise of our own country, the first written constitution in the Magna Carta, etc.
Only the UK can decide if they want the Royal family to remain as it is or substantially as it is, but its history is significant not only in the UK, but in the development of the modern world.

True, she died and they are still living - but are you implying that’s somehow their fault? The paparazzi killed her. Period.
DP. But you can’t really give props to Camilla and Charles when Diana is dead. No way to know how things would have turned out.

They didn't kill her. Drunk driving, speeding, and lack of seat belt killed her. This is a dramatization, not a surveillance camera. Neither Charles nor Diana, for all their money and privilege, had ideal upbringings. Both were emotionally warped in fundamentally incompatible ways and forced together by circumstances somewhat beyond their control. Yes, Charlies was a cheating cad and a cold fish. But Diana was also mentally ill and did things like humiliate her kids by airing her dirty marriage laundry in the media, and use William as an emotional crutch. She was no saint. They both had issues. It was just a tragedy all around. And for all his faults, Charles does seem to have turned out two reasonably stable adult sons, despite what they've all been through.
The whole family is a mess. Despite their money, I feel sorry for all of them. I wouldn't switch places in a million years.
Kind of agree with this but also it seems a little bit unfair for Charles to have had many years of adulthood to get some distances from his upbringing and Diana to hit the scene at 19 and be held to the same standard for dealing with his psychotic family.

Lack of royal protection officers and driver, is what killed her.

Rubbish right back. Then they should have aged Philip a lot more. The actor who played Lord Mountbatten looked far more appropriate, age wise, than the Philip actor.
Go watch footage from Diana’s funeral and you’ll see what the Queen and Phillip looked like. The actors have the same hairstyles and wrinkles. Good casting and makeup.

NP. Disagree with this. Some people carry old for their age and others young. Madonna is 62, would that be better casting? I think the show does a good job.

Diana deserves some of the credit for how William and Harry turned out. Sounds like, from numerous interviews and accounts, her sons agree. Also Diana may have struggled with mental illness, but some of it was a symptom of how terribly she was treated by Charles and the BRF. The callousness and indifference, not to mention Charles’ affair with Camilla. Horrible.

I watched Diana in her own words last night on Netflix (I'm in Canada, not sure if it's on US Netflix) and I think the Queen looked the appropriate age in this season compared to what the real Queen looked like during this time period. I didn't find Season 3+4 Phillip to be as good as Season 1+2 Phillip, so that was more my issue.
