Meh! I think Yale has gone down. Princeton is obviously very strong for undergraduates but location turns some people off and the eating clubs culture also turns some kids off. I’m not saying either of these things should matter but I know they do for some kids

Try to visit Princeton in cool weather when it is in session and has some activity in evidence. On a quiet swampy summer day it does not present well. I tired to tell my kid it was just the day we visited but could not get him to even apply.

Yep. We are in-state and dd said no way. Pitt and PSU are also absurdly expensive for tuition and r&b.

Even when it was just a party school it's admissions stats were pretty high.

It has super low tuition.

The population growth has definitely helped both UF and FSU become far more selective than they were even 20 years ago. They also benefited from legislation passed a few years ago classifying them as “preeminent” universities, entitling them to increased funding from the state and allowing them to raise tuition.

Public HS or private?

Public. Lately they always seem to take 4 from our school. Stanford 1 to zero. Princeton 2 to zero (also legacies seem to be preferred). Columbia 1 or 2 (not necessarily legacy). Harvard always seems to take legacy or recruited athletes

Yes, UF can be much more selective. This trend has been going on for close to 40 years.
