I still don't understand how they CAN'T recruit. Would you rather stay 2nd or even 3rd string at another WCAC school or go to O'Connell and immediately be one of the 3 best players on the TEAM?
Do they not get any level of support from a tuition/recruiting standpoint?
DJO does offer more tuition relief but apparently it's not enough to sway families from going to other Catholic or local schools. It would also help to find a permanent coach who will be there for a few years - does anybody have any recommendations to give DJO?
The challenge for DJO, and many other private school programs, is that in addition to the need for coaching stability, there is a limited number of talented kids who play club lacrosse at a high enough level to make a difference at the program level. If your son is a good lacrosse player on a high level club team, AND your family has the $$, then it’s just easier to go to an established private school program vice trying to turn around a lousy one. If your family doesn’t have the $$, and you’re already on a top club team, then playing for free with your public school makes more sense. Bottom line for DJO, unless they can find a coach who can recruit 10-12 talented club kids to be at DJO at the same time, they will always struggle.
