My DH has constant GI issues and his grandfather died of colon cancer. He just turned 41 and is so resistant to almost anything medical, including a colonoscopy. We've been arguing all morning about him making an appointment next week. We have little kids. Even seeing this news, which he woke me up at 5am to tell me, doesn't seem to be enough of an impetus. It's mind-blowing.
What race is your DH?
He's black.
Five years ago at age 37 I got a colonoscopy because I was having IBS type symptoms. Turns out I had 4 precancerous polyps. I am a white woman. The dr said it was rare as older black men tend to be the most diagnosed. I had no idea they were there and thank heavens I just happen to have the screening. Otherwise I'm positive I'd have full blown colon cancer now. Given all the processed unhealthy food we're eating nowadays it is not surprising younger people are getting it.
So docs can distinguish polyps that are precancerous from those that are benign?

Anonymous wrote:Go get your colonoscopy people! The rate of colon cancer in young people is increasing. Insurance pays and the pill prep isn’t so bad. It’s totally preventable.
