Summer swim is primarily a social activity (for both kids and parents). I get the summer teams who want to hold practices for both physical exercise for the kids and to improve technique. Those who also want to host rogue summer meets have lost their minds. Kids are in it for socializing....pep rallies, cheers, summer movies, etc. Aside from a small minority on each team, they really aren't in it for the actual meet itself. Anyone who thinks a rogue summer meet is going to be remotely similar to what the kids are used to is borderline delusional.

We have sign up for adults and kids ages 7+ who can be unsupervised and pass swim test. One person per lane for 45 block. No hanging out on deck.

At beginning of Phase 1: entrance for up to 6 adult members in the Lap Pool (and 8 members in the Main Pool – if applicable) at one time only for lap swimming. No non-swimmers allowed in the pool area. Final number of swimmers will be determined regarding 10 feet apart guidance.

Members will reserve their 30-minute timeslot via an online reservation form 24 hours in advance. Members may also call during open hours and reserve a time to swim for the next day. Specific information regarding the on-line reservation system and call in options will be shared shortly. You may not reserve a spot for the next day until after your previous swim.


Our pool will employ this as well if we open.
Not sure yet about how many slots per membership, when you can register, etc.
Does your pool have those details?

I imagine that all open pools will have liability waivers. And also, it is quite hard to show definitely where one got exposed to COVID. If folks are going to the pool, odds are they are also going grocery shopping/picking up take out/etc. Only an issue if we actually get to contact tracing.

oh please. VA is an assumption of risk state.


We just a very detailed plan from our pool board today. Everyone has to sign a waiver to use the pool this summer.

NP NoVA pool Board member here.
I’ve read that Mantua is doing swim practice - I am very curious how that will go. Our swim team has canceled for the summer and our pool isn’t opening until Phase 2 if at all.

The reason you are getting the request from year round swim teams is the only outdoor pools can be used right now. So, all the usual places they would practice, such as rec centers, colleges, pools at gyms are not available to them.


Please consider opening your pools to local swim teams. It increases your revenue and they all have very strict rules in place for their practices.


What are those rules? How can you have multiple swimmers per lane? I've had my fingers whacked enough times by people wearing paddles to know swimmers get very close to each other.


Rules that stipulate only one swimmer per lane. So only six to eight kids at a time having practice. That's why they're trying to get space at ALL the pools.

Yes, none under 7 to start. The youngest (3-6) would be phase 3.
