But the current 6th grade class had a choice in rotations. Tech or art? Why did they combine them and not let kids choose.
Why is JW changing everything if there is no tech requirement - which is what they keep trying to tell everyone.
Did they really have a choice between a tech and art rotation? My current 6th grader is taking a mix of tech and art classes at JW this year. I don't remember having her decide to do a tech rotation or arts rotation last year.
Yes, there were two quarter rotations to choose and no semester courses.
But for the other quarters, kids were still assigned to arts classes. It’s not like a kid would only get tech classes or arts classes. My dd put tech classes as her two top choices but she still did general music last quarter and will be doing studio art next quarter.

Imagineering tech is the new film course. This way the film course counts as a tech elective for state requirements.
But there is no actual state requirement for middle school correct?
Correct
Correct

Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Agree! What I completely don't understand and never got an answer on is imagineering tech. My DC was interested, but it is only a semester option. And it is the only semester option for all the electives. Band, Chorus, and Art are all full year options. So what do you take the other semester when you are done imagineering tech? Study hall or something else? No one knew the answer. LOL.
In my session this was actually answered. If you pick Imagineering tech for semester you automatically get art rotation for next semester. Art rotation is full year, BUT you get different class every quarter from the five options offered. You cant pick your options, which is ridiculous.

Unfortunately MCPS makes it complicated. If your kid wants to take 3 years of a language in MS, there can be issues.
I am surprised they don’t offer french 3ab and Spanish 3ab is new this year , older DC ‘s school offer other, I thought it is standard..
More kids interested in Spanish, I guess? Or easier to find staff.
Are this years 8th graders the first year allowed to take 1a/1b in 6th grade? Is French 1a/1b offered in 6th now too? Do those kids have to go to RM for 3a/b
? DP.... did this change from three years ago, because when my now 9th grader was going into 6th grade, DC had the option to take spanish 1a/1b. So did my DC#2 in 6th grade.
Did they end up going to RM for Spanish 3 then ? Since Spanish 3 was not offered at JW back then, I think that’s why they discouraged kids to take 1ab in 6th grade, they would have no option but go to RM in 8th grade
