My son (freshman at ND) would have loved being in a city, but he didn't even consider Georgetown. But he didn't want to stay in DC area.

I laugh every single time I read something like this. While Georgetown certainly attracts a much larger percentage of non-Catholic applicants, the undergraduate school is still 60 percent Catholic and there is a huge overlap in applications between the two schools. They are generally considered the two most prestigious Catholic universities in the country.

That you personally did not even consider ND hardly means that nobody else would, hard as it is for you to "imagine."

Georgetown. No question. DH and I are both ND graduates and ND is in the middle of nowhere. South Bend sucks. That said, ND does have a great sophomore year abroad program so it doesn’t screw up your major if you want STEM.

I went to a Catholic high school in the Midwest in the 2000s and the people who went there from my high school weren’t exactly the best and the brightest/intellectually curious types. But maybe it’s kind of like GW and the reputation has changed over the years?


Same! I'm from the mid-west too and everyone I know was dying to get out of that part of the country. I think the ND hype is really crazy. For someone to pick it over G'town ... would seem really weird for anyone who loves urban/coastal living. The midwest is a pit and VERY red.

I think the only reason you'd chose Georgetown over ND is if you want to be in DC.
Frankly, the schools are so different, it's odd to me that anyone would be considering those two and not know which one they'd prefer.
Far more people at ND had BC as their second choice - mostly Georgetown wasn't even on the radar.
