Op’s life in general sounds way too intertwined with the neighbors. We really like our neighbors too...but there has to be SOME space.

And maybe I missed it, but if Op’s nannies are college or grad students (?), she can’t expect them to be around for very long, right? We were always grateful if the college sitters we used were reliably with us for 12 months.

People like the neighbor approach nannies (instead of the employer) because they believe the nanny will not say no - it's all very deliberate.
