The older I get the more I realize this. White collar careers are great too but our generation has really been steered in the wrong direction. There are many many blue collar jobs that pay incredibly well and many many white collar jobs that do not. Also many blue collars jobs translate well into a small business for those who are smart and ambitious.
Sigh. I have an HLS degree and make a little under $200k (gov't). My job is fine, but if I could drive a tugboat instead of sit at a desk I would. Also lower COL where that tugboat is I am guessing.

This might sound like a lie but it is absolutely the truth. I am blue-collar and dating a woman literally worth hundreds of millions of dollars. This woman is friends with world leaders and even royalty. We get along fantastically and have been dating for a while over a year. We are both in our 40s and previously married. I so agree with this. Young people are being told that a degree is all that matters and then when they finish that degree there is so much competition to try to get a job. Meanwhile there are so many great paying jobs out there.
Anyway if OP is concerned about this, then the guy isn't right for her. She will resent him for being blue collar.

No it means that stupid people look down on blue collar workers but some people end up with a pretty nice lifestyle from that blue collar job. I have to laugh when people turn their noses up at tradespeople, if only people knew how much money they are making. Not all but a lot of them.
Why is it that only the white collar jobs are worthy of respect for the money they make. Or is it that some people get a little jealous when they are putting in 14 hour days and some tradie doing electrical work finishing at 5pm is making just as much money. One is tied to the corporate chain the other not so much, they tend to make their own work and hours.

Omg this is so funny. They will work the hours that suit them plus have the pride of running their own successful business. Did it ever occur to you that these people may not want to fit into the world you so highly crave. Do you think they want to be respected by white collar workers or UC people?
Do you not think they might be content with their nice house, nice car, nice holidays, family and close friends. They may not want to smooze with people that have gone to top tier colleges, you do realise that some people find those people incredibly uptight and boring, trying to fit into their one size fits all cookie cutter life.
You may think they are poorly educated but to run a successful business they have something going on, it may not be what you deem to be respectful but I bet they laugh more than you do, I bet their dinner parties hold real warmth in the room and I bet they can tell a great story or two.

I don't think that OP is talking about dating a 1/1000 person who owns a business that employs blue collar workers and makes over $100K. Blue collar means blue collar work, with a normal blue collar income.
