PP here. Really? Our neighborhood gets probably upwards of 1,000 kids for ToT. We handed out over 600 pieces of candy. I think everyone survived with us being away for 45 minutes. It's not like our neighborhood suffers from a lack of trick or treaters or people handing out candy. At any given time there were plenty of people handing out candy, including us. We gave out candy from 5-5:30 and then from 6:30-7:30 (when the storm hit and the trick or treaters stopped coming).

I think the system works just fine.

Ironically -- that was probably the best weather we've ever had for trick or treating. Didn't rain until after 9pm.

We are also selfish, put a box of candy out and enjoy the night with our kids. In our neighborhood, we get maybe 15 kids at the most and no way are we staying home for them. We would rather see hundreds of people in their costumes and admire the decorations in the nearby neighborhood.

GTFOH. There are a lot of selfish actions. Putting out a bucket so you can go ToTing with your 3 year old (or turning your light out for 45 minutes) is not on the list. Larlo will survive without one fun size candy bar.

We put out a bowl of candy, too, when we’re not home. The kids getting the candy don’t care.

If you were both out....how did you know you had no trick or treaters come by?

LOL. No, because we don't live in SF.

Our house was quiet for the 45 minutes the kids were out. Considering we handed out literally hundreds of pieces of candy, I think we contributed our fair share to Halloween.

It is pouring now! So glad the rain held out until after trick or treating.
