I am alive and quite well, thank you very much. I assure you, I have never had a guest waste away. If you are having a heavy, early dinner you can most assuredly survive on a light snack between breakfast and dinner.

Sounds to me like you treat guests the way most people treat their houseplants - water, occasionally feed, give them some sunlight, and be pleased with yourself when they don’t die.

I agree. I’m not sure why people encourage this notion of constant eating.

Anorexic, you think? Intensely analyzing food intake (including others’), exercising strict control over eating schedule, meticulous about her house.

Since a few of you have asked this question, I will answer it. I have a beautifully landscaped backyard complete with flowering shrubs, trees, fountains, bird feeders, walkways, picnic tables and benches. It's a serene and lovely place to sit and enjoy the fresh air.

I have a compost bin at the far edge of the property where peels and cores can be tossed. The one exception is citrus peels. Those always go in the outside dumpster, never in the compost bin.

BKL, this doesn't add up. You're describing basically Martha Stewart's Skylands...and yet it is adjacent to a gas station and a Burger King?

The gas station and Burger King are 5 miles away. Of course my guests are welcome to use the bathrooms in my house. I just prefer that no outside food be brought into the house. They may take a piece of fruit from the fruit bowl and eat it outside. If they really must eat large quantities between meals then they will need to go to Burger King or the gas station. Don't expect to spend the day grazing in my kitchen, I'm not cleaning up crumbs, fingerprints and spills all day long. Forget that. Why hosts would allow that sort of thing in their homes is beyond me.

It's in PG County.

Roughage. To clear out the Burger King/gas station food. Duh.

Delicious, lovely roughage. Only the best.

I would bet good money that within the year, BKL has a policy of "closing the bathroom," if she doesn't already. C'mon, she just polished the toilet and she doesn't want your nasty sprinkle on it. There's a lovely bench you can sit on in the hall and think about what you almost did. You pooped three days ago, you disgusting thing. Why would you need to go again? You might get your oily fingerprints on the perfect handle.

have mercy...

Let me remind you there’s a perfectly good gas station bathroom next to the Burger King - if you must relieve yourself with such absurd regularity.

You have multiple picnic tables in your yard?

The ladies are just going out to lunch and one other friend is coming along. My mom refuses to drive much more than back and forth to the grocery store so if she wants to see her friends, I’m the sole transportation.

I have the worst attitude, too. My mom annoys me to no end. Control freak and super picky and critical. Gossips. Judges. Narcissistic. She will talk non stop and expect me to cater and serve her. Try to read a book or have quiet time? That’s incredibly rude. Off to the gym? At this time? Or worse, she’ll begin to worry after about 15 minutes? Where is she?

I offered to drive her and drop her off, drive home and return for her. She was agitated and insulted by this suggestion. I have my own hotel room but she made sure it’s adjoining and yes, the door will be open. Mom wanted to go for an entire week but I stood my ground and said I only have enough leave for a weekend trip.

It’s like playing chess! Can anyone help? I can’t take my sedative and drive...

Sounds like my Mom. I finally just quit trying to make things go more smoothly, since my efforts made a difference. Just absolve yourself of feeling guilt, whether you accommodate her or say no. And look hard for things that are amusing or when she is on good behavior.

Young kids can’t go from 7 am until 4 pm! Do you have little kids? I’m not for the snacking all the time but this is crazy.

This is why there is a serious obesity epidemic. Young children do not need to eat greasy convenience food. If they are hungry between meals they should get an apple out of the fruit bowl, sit on the front doorstep and have a nice, healthy, nutritious snack. They do not need a bacon, nacho cheese, funion burger.

Do you seriously think small children should go from 7AM to 4PM with only an apple in between? Do you not feed your children lunch?

If I am serving a late lunch/early dinner bbq at 4pm, I would not expect to have a pre-lunch/dinner meal especially if I had just eaten a big bowl of cereal that morning. If you really must eat, a delicious piece of fruit should be enough to sustain them until the bbq starts. I always keep a well stocked fruit bowl on the breakfast bar - you don't need to enter the kitchen - just grab an apple, banana, orange or pear, go sit outside in the fresh air and enjoy!

The 4th of July bbq spread is a much heavier meal than one would usually eat. I can't imagine eating a big, salty, heavily processed turkey sandwich from Panera only to turn right around and eat bbq just a few hours later.

This last one is pretty good. But are You thé RÉAL PP, or just a good facsimile ?

Yes. I am the poster who has been dubbed "Burger King Lady". Not all of the posts on this thread have been from me but the two highlighted posts above are written by me and I stand by them.
