I don't mean to offend OP, but maybe this is what public education is.

I thought my kid was really smart too until she went to private school. Then she was just average.

I believe the screening is required by the state. The county chooses to do things their own way so doesn't use it but instead does another similar screening in third.

They did that before, with Inview, but still.. nothing happened in 3rd grade. They had the same spiel back then, too. That 2nd grade screening really doesn't mean much when it comes down to it, other than as a parent, having another data point about how your kid is doing. There is no tracking or specialized curriculum for your "gifted" 3rd grader.

I say this as a parent whose HSer is now in magnet and was identified as "gifted" in 2nd grade, too.

I'm just saying, take that info with a grain of salt.
