If you have lots of money, yes. If not, there are other ways. My DS had similar scores and was rejected. Last year we did a WISC and the scores were all over the place with some super high and some just better than average, it wasn’t clear whether it would help or hurt. I hemmed and hawed about whether to include the WISC in the appeal. As luck would have it, my ADD addled brain had me forget to bring the WISC results that day the appeal was due to be postmarked, so all I sent with the appeal was a letter and 2 work samples. It worked.

It sounds like there is an over reliance on the teacher’s observations, which is so subjective. Why bother with the tests if they don’t count for anything?

FYI I don't think it's about the number of Frequents vs. Consistents. It's about the teacher comments. DC had two pages of small typed detailed, specific, glowing, creative, outside the box, comments in the GBRS. Plus, DC gets advanced services in Math and Reading and is at a 38 DRA.

child scored significantly higher on all the tests than his older sister, who was in first round after being referred two years ago.

This whole thread is bizarre.

My child also just got rejected with higher scores than older brother, who was in first round. Older child struggled with reading. My current 2nd grader will read multiple books per day and is a knowledge sponge. This system seems off!

DS got rejected with 141 Cogat. (124 V, 145 Q, 132 NV). He was 99th for age and local percentile.

I thought DS would have been in. He is an avid reader and loves math. I emailed AART to request the packet that was submitted.

I’m not too surprised even though the COGAT wasn’t great. DD’s teachers expressed confidence about it before I even brought it up.

I have to say, I'm pretty happy. I did not take this for granted. Very surprised that so many higher-scoring kids did not get in, and wonder why mine did. Work samples were good but not earth-shattering. Two teacher recs (from RSM and his language teacher). He speaks three languages, maybe that was his hook. Dunno.
