Folks are getting too hung up on ward boundaries and trying to apply them to school boundaries. The ward boundaries will be redrawn in 2021 regardless of school boundaries to balance the number of people in each; the objective is to make all 8 have the same number of residents.

Wilson is not your school by divine right, sorry. Boundaries change all the time. Eventually, SP, an EOTP neighborhood, will be routed to an EOTP school. You might opt out - but that won't change anything...SP is drunk on its own self-importance.

I am PP, yes boundaries changes and I am ok with that, but you, fighting for the change in hope that SP will make your school better means that maybe SP actually have some importance? if not why do you need it so bad? If SES goes, Lafayette should as well, why are you using the park as boundary and not the ward #? just some rhetorical questions.

And if it’s proximity and even distribution of top performers, Key and Hyde should be routed to Cardozo, Oyster to Roosevelt. Hearst, Janney, Eaton, Mann, Murch can go to Wilson.

We shall see. No impact on me. If SES gets rezoned, I do think Lafayette should as well.

So you think Oyster kids should go to Cardozo and Key kids should go to a new Ward 2 high school right? What about ward 4 families that live closer to Wilson than Coolidge? Yes, you're a ward 4 dad but obviously not a Wilson IB dad. You are being selfish just like anyone else advocating for their self interest. There is no rule that says high schools have to be strict to ward zones.

+1. Wilson/Deal are not that far from Shepherd. I take my young kid to a class there on Saturdays, and I can get there in 12-15 min from my house zoned for Shepherd. I know during the week will be a little longer, but still not that far.

Also, let's not forget that some of Ward 4 is WOTP. Should they also be moved to a high school within their ward?

I must be even closer to you. I get to Deal NOW in the mornings in about 8 minutes (although I am AT the park). It would take me 12-15 minutes to get to Coolidge in rush hour.

I live in Takoma. My kids do not attend Coolidge. But the primary problem isn't classroom management based on what is shared on our neighborhood listserv and in the data released by DCPS.

30% of students are Latino. 28% are ELLs, many arriving in the U.S. less than 5 years ago. 24% of students have disabilities. 71% qualify as at-risk (qualify for TANF and/or food stamps, are homeless, are in foster care).

It is a high-needs population. Perhaps Coolidge isn't serving them well, but these kids are going to struggle anywhere.
