Schumer: Trump said he would close government for a 'long time ... even years'
Returning to the Capitol, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell told reporters there is an agreement to hold staff level talks on ending the shutdown this weekend. Trump said he designated a group of aides to participate in the discussions, which he described as meant to "determine what we're going to do about the border."
It's that question which still divides the White House and congressional Democrats, who have vowed to block any attempts to secure new funding for a border wall.
"We cannot resolve this until we open up government, and we made that very clear to the President," Pelosi said after the White House meeting.
He's the biggest disgrace to the office of POTUS in history. No one with any brains and a desire to keep this country functional would threaten to shut down the Government for years.
Someone needs to explain to Trump that without Government, there's anarchy.
But this is what he both wants and needs to avoid punishment on a personal legal - criminal and civil - level. I called this immediately. I have no doubt he will faux negotiate but do his utmost to extend this to late winter unless and until proceedings start in the House.

For one tribe of Chippewa Indians in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, the government shutdown comes with a price tag: about $100,000, every day, of federal money that does not arrive to keep health clinics staffed, food pantry shelves full and employees paid.
The tribe is using its own funds to cover the shortfalls for now. But if the standoff in Washington continues much longer, that stopgap money will be depleted. Later this month, workers could be furloughed and health services could be pared back. “Everything,” said Aaron Payment, the chairman of the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe, “is on the table.”
For many Americans who are not federal workers or contractors, a shutdown is a minor inconvenience. A trip to a national park may be canceled. A call to a government office may go unanswered. But for Native American tribes, which rely heavily on federal money to operate, a shutdown can cripple their most basic functions.
All across Indian Country, the federal shutdown slices deep. Generations ago, tribes negotiated treaties with the United States government guaranteeing funds for services like health care and education in exchange for huge swaths of territory.
By Saturday, the federal government will have been shut down for two weeks, a full pay cycle for federal workers. If the shutdown lasts through Monday, it will surpass the one of 2013, and if it lasts beyond the following Saturday, it will be the longest shutdown in United States history. Politicians have said they were hopeful that the standoff could be over in a matter of “days and weeks,” a reassurance that rang hollow to hundreds of thousands of federal workers who were not getting paid.

This isn't about the Wall at all. It's about DJT trying to rally his base as he tries to psychologically cope with the tsunami of sh#t he's about to eat.

Sounds about right. This is about anything but a wall.
It will last until the end of January. Mueller-related stuff is going to cause seismic shifts in American politics in the next few weeks. Sit tight folks.

Possibly. But I don't think McConnell will let the shutdown go on much longer. Holidays are over, time to get back to work, time for the government to get back to working.
McConnell is about to eat the same tsunami of sh#t as Trump. They are joined at the hip - they rise & fall together. That's why McConnell is playing politics with this; he's trying to save his own and his family's asses. He will sacrifice 800,000 Fed for his own family's fortune. Seriously.
His China family?![]()

So I do not see why people on all sides can’t at least agree a shutdown is not good.
People have bills due now.
