Sounds like a smart move by Tom. Perhaps the new management at WS is looking at new ways to bring in talent.

Next year's U12s will be called "pre-Academy". The clubs will still want to attract the best talent in order to build for their U13 DA teams. Whether they schedule them to play other "pre-Academy" U12s on the same matchdays as the U13/U14 DA groups will only work if all or nearly all of the DAs agree to participate that way. Otherwise there'll be too many holes to fill in the U12s schedules.

A more workable option is probably to create a "club-v-club" division in EDP, similar to the current U16 division. I wonder though, how CCL will feel if Loudoun and Arlington put their top U12 team in EDP. Right now, CCL is OK with getting those clubs B teams because the top teams are DA, but somehow I don't think they'll feel the same way about EDP.

Will be interesting to see how it all shakes out.

Why make statements like this? Here is a recent announcement for Arlington DA ID session for 2009/09 boys. See https://arlingtonsoccer.demosphere-secure.com/programs/development-academy/talent-id

It apparently was true numbskull.

You are constitutionally incapable of reading or understanding what you read. Arlington continues to list the DA ID session for 2008/2009 players, and clubs will continue to run DA programs at U12. They will not be centrally planned or directed. What is difficult to understand about this? Nothing that reading well would not avoid. Perhaps a little more of that and a little less rumormongering. You can look it up.

DP, but what are you taking about?

The DA is dropping the U12 age group. Period.

Yes, DA clubs will continue to have U12 age groups, but they won't be DA teams.

Next year's U12 in a DA club wil be the same as this year's U9-U11 in a DA club.

This statement is false. The clubs plan to treat the u12's as DA teams, only the programming will be run locally, not centrally by US Soccer. That's why they are still advertising ID sessions for the age group.

And instead of DA league games they will have what, scrimmages?

We’ll see, but the option that makes the most sense for the DA clubs is to play that age group around the schedules for the older groups that play one another. Maybe they set up divisions in EDP or some other league vehicle for this, maybe not. In either case, they will maintain the separation of the age group as a stepping stone to US Soccer DA programming at the older age groups to keep the revenue stream going. Why on earth would they choose the option of disbanding to their standard league/tiering when they can keep it as part of an exclusive group of DA clubs and use it as a player magnet?

What is going to be so exclusive about the U12 DA? Is it just the coaching staff? What else will be different from the rest of the Age Group? How big/how many players are these Groups expected to be? What can they expect in playing time for any 'future' league or DA scrimmages? At this age, you would want a small roster to get more game time. From the ID sessions we attended at 2 different clubs 99.9% of the players were the same exact kids already in the U11 programming/current players at those respective Clubs.

Also, why wouldn't the U12 age groups in these Clubs keep the same programming for all of these 11 year olds in their U12 year? Shouldn't all of the players in the age group receive the same training, be on board with the same style of play? These kids are a long way from puberty and they have very large pool of players. A lot of parents we over heard are concerned about removing their kid from the A team that already is competitive and will continue to play League games versus the unknown, especially if their kids are happy. But, feel pressured to do it in case they want to go for DA in the future.

I think there really needs to be much better communication about exactly what is happening for these pre-DA U12 groups, but maybe that is because they don't know yet either. I guess we will all have to wait and see as they hash it out over the next few months.

Don’t bother wasting your breath here. There are some who are too ignorant to understand things and intent on making their little points no matter what.
