Pulled into my parking garage this morning - there must be a hundred cars here already, and EVERY SINGLE ONE is backed in. Glad to confirm that I don't work with morons.

I knew someone would say this. When you drive towards your house, you can see the yard, the driveway, the street, and everything else around you. Back in to your driveway and/or garage safely. That way when you leave, you can see everything around you as you pull out - the driveway, the street, your kid's bicycle, your KID, etc. It is always safer to pull out of a parking area than to back out. I wonder how many of you idiots check behind your car before backing out, or open the garage door and check your driveway before backing out - probably very few. Read the news stories and look at how many kids are run over in their own driveways every year. THIS is why I always back in.

I don't buy the whole backing in is safer thing. I see people walking through parking spaces all the time. So people backing in still need to worry about that, And what about the safety to other vehicles? I'm sure people who back into spaces ding more cars than those who pull in.



It's far safer for you and I both if I'm pulling out of a space, and I can SEE people like you coming, driving 35 mph through the parking lot lanes. If I'm backing out, I won't see you until you're almost upon me, and knowing your type, you'll run into me and cause a crash, seeking a settlement.

Pulling OUT of a space negates the opportunity for bad / angry drivers (like you, in case that wasn't already made clear) to crash into me.

Not only that, but when people pull all the way up to my bumper when I'm pulled through/backed-in to a space, I just take the opportunity to hop on the hood of their car and stand on it while I inspect my Yakima rack to make sure everything is still tight. You should check those every few weeks, you know. And I do.

The morons that park like this drive SUVs. The trunk opens up and out. Except when my car is 1/8" away.



My Mercedes SUV open up. So even if you touched my bumper it wouldn't hit your car. All of this talking does not erase the fact that it is safer to back in and has been proven to be safer. If you can't back in, you are a poor driver. Some driving skills take practice, i.e. backing in and parallel parking. If you never do these things, then how can you become good at it? This is one thing I truly admire my DH on, he can parallel park in one swift motion. His skill made me want to be a better driver. So every chance I get, I practice these skills. I am a patient driver, so I don't mind waiting a few seconds if I'm behind a driver that decides to back in. We are teaching our teenage children to do the same when driving. I'm backing the GLS in every.single.time.



Have you ever thought about how annoying it is for those behind you to have to wait for you to practice these skills? Backing in is not necessary.

Truthfully, 98% of the people you see blocking everyone by trying to back in to a space, are the same hefty people who circle and stalk so they can get a close parking space.

Just park in the the rear, save everyone else (and yourself!) the time--as well as a few lbs.
