From the hearing last night.
One old racist woman doesn't speak for a whole county.
It wasn't only one woman... and someone is racist because she doesn't want to pay legal fees for someone who clearly has broken the law?
Glad you pointed that out! It goes back to the old liberal ploy of calling people who want to see illegal immigration laws enforced "racist."

But, I also understand the reasoning behind funding immigration lawyers in MoCo---a county with a high volume of American born children with undocumented parents. In short: our county is more stable and far safer when these families remain intact. Just look at the Latino gang issues we have in our county: they are connected to lack of family stability (more directly: youth without parental supervision).
Except the funding isn't limited to parents of American born children who are minors. It would be far more acceptable for the county to offer some type of hardship legal assistance SOLELY to parents of minor children and not take on the legal fees for all non-citizens.
Nope. no funding at all for anyone. if they can pay $7000 to human traffickers to get here, they can pay for their own lawyer.
This is a boon for lawyers. They are probably lobbying MoCo for this...
?
The county is proposing a token amount of funding to a legal services org. It's enough for 2 or 3 FT public interest lawyers at best. This is not a boon for lawyers.
$373,000 to one legal services organization is a boon. And let's be real, this is the camel's nose under the tent. This year it is $373,000 and a few years down the road, it will be millions. They just can't start off requesting millions without causing a revolt.
