We do 3 vacas annually. One winter before holiday when rates shoot through the roof, one summer and one spring. We usually do 2/3 trip involving air travel with the other being local. Usually, we alternate summer/spring trips between being a local shorter/less $$ trip with the other being bigger. This year our summer is the big one.

Montreal/QC. We are flying in to Montreal for 2 days then train to QC for 3 days before flying home from QC. I'm totally excited! Kids are 6 and 8. This is the 2nd year we've really gone places as we didn't want to deal with flying/travels before little one was at least age 5 and off naps - our kids need complete darkness to sleep which really makes no sense travelling!

Looking at Costa Rica for next spring or winter and Nova Scotia or Seattle for summer. Ireland and Portugal are on our list

Nothing exciting. Just to the CT shore where my family lives. Kids are 7 and 3, the backyard pool and beach are enough to keep them happy at this age and it has the added bonus of my parents being thrilled to have the kids so I can still work and save my PTO for the endless sick days, snow days, teacher work days, etc.

You shouldn't. Most people are only choosing to post if they feel their summer plans are especially awesome. Many of us are going to the usually places nearby (OBX, Rehoboth, etc.) so are not posting.

We are only taking a one-week vacation this summer--it sounds fancy, but it's courtesy of our ILs. We'll be here working the rest of the summer, and kid has some fun summer camps lined up.

This. We have a big splurge trip to Europe planned this summer but typically we just go to Rehoboth or Florida for a week every summer.

You could fly to any of the places mentioned and camp the whole time, and get by financially.

How do you fly somewhere and camp? What about the gear?

H and I flew out to San Fran one year, rented a compact car and drove to Yosemite, Sequoia NP, Kings Canyon, and Joshua Tree, and flew out of LA. We brought our tent and sleeping bags (they fold up really small), plus a bunch of REI freeze dried camping food pouches that you simply add hot water to make dinner. It was wonderful, and pretty cheap. Car camping is fairly easy and you don't have to bring as much stuff, as you can buy groceries along the way. Our favorite park was the Sequoia.

Now you can do these things: https://www.jucyusa.com/

We are going to take the kids to Japan. I think it will be eye opening for them. Tokyo and Kyoto.
