The Jackson boundaries were contiguous. There was no "island" in the Oakton pyramid being sent to Jackson. Jackson was simply a split feeder to Falls Church and Oakton, just as Franklin is a split feeder to Oakton and Chantilly.
And, your "greater community area" is Fairfax County. The areas involved are simply part of unincorporated Fairfax County, not the Town of Vienna. You simply make up communities based on your affinity for people with more money.
Wrong. My greater community is Vienna (1.5 miles to downtown) and Oakton (1 mike to the shopping center). LJ is part of the Falls Church and Dunn Loring greater communities.
And yet Dunn Loring goes to TMS

Shame on you, Dalia Palchik. And Karen Keys-Gamarra? What a phony.
Frankly, I've always thought it was offensive to the LJ-zoned kids that they were already squished in a severely over-crowded school, and yet, kids from another zone had the right to opt into LJ and make it even more crowded! I would have been so annoyed if my kid was in LJ over the past few years and TMS-AAP kids were opting in to make it more crowded. I guess, in practice, it is only 50 kids per grade... but that's 100 kids extra... and four trailers-worth. So, in some sense the school would have been crowded with or without the TMS opt-in's. But, it's the principle of the matter... kids having the option to make my kids' school more crowded. (If I had been a LJ parent). As it was, I was a TMS parent, and my kid has PLENTY of space over the past two years in a brand new facility. This rezoning should have been done two years ago.
But the TMS-AAP kids still have that option, only now there are more of them being given an option to choose between two schools.
FCPS could have eliminated thAT option by simply making Thoreau a center, without also greatly expanding its boundaries. Instead, they've made the worst decision possible, and now they'll just sit back and watch the AAP families gradually move to TMS over the next few years. You should be happy your kids are out of middle schools, because Thoreau likely will end up very crowded with base boundaries that feed into three different high schools.

Anonymous wrote:No. It was a man-made island. You passed by other houses zoned for TMS to come down 29 and down Blake and around 123 over to courthouse and back around Sutton to Nutley. It was a carved out island that made no sense! It would have made more sense to grab the houses closer in to LJ instead of grabbing those further out. The SB finally understood! Thank GOD!
