Bad — she won’t want to take my last name, she thinks that being fat and hairy is a sign of empowerment, she probably has friends that hate men, it easy for her to talk but hard for her to listen, I will be subjected to too many stories about “discrimination.”

Very accurate

I’m talking a difference of 1.2m to 300k. Enough to make anyone very angry.

Yes, have access to payroll. Women and minorities at the bottom. I reevaluate my team. It’s socially complicated.

We accept less is part of the equation. We are applauded for getting rock stars to accept less. White men ask for and negotiate more.

As a guy, I've read enough to see data represented both ways. Yes, in the aggregate there is a pay gap but once you look at all the factors, it is supposedly minimal. There's research to prove both sides of the case. I personally would never pay someone less just because they are a woman, ever. So find it really hard to believe situations like yours.

If this is indeed true, you should NOT put up with it. There are career and salary negotiation coaches that can help with this. If you are not happy with your circumstance, fight for it. On your way up, be fair.

Good luck!

We're not arguing hourly wage workers. The higher you climb, the more apparent it becomes. You're just happy to be at the sausage party making 1/3 of your peers.

Read this article on why there aren't more women in Tech. I didn't make it up. If you don't have the numbers (because you self-select away into something else) you can't make a difference.

This is actually a good article. Women in developed countries avoid STEM because they can live comfortable lives with a Liberal Arts degrees. In less-developed countries, women are more likely to major in STEM fields out of economic necessity.

Liar.

Probably true. But no less irrelevant. I'm sure someone could have filled-in for her, etc., but martyrdom beckoned.

It's like people who brag about working 80 hour weeks. If you are really constantly working insane hours like this, you are either inefficient or nuts.

Most of the pay gap is at the top. At entry-level and mid-level jobs, there is less of a gap.

The problem is that people complaining about the pay gap never seem to acknowledge this. Much like Affirmative Action, it is always low-level people that are expected to step up while the people at the top, who really do get a disproportionate amount of the pie, just float above the fray.

And how is that white men's fault? That's not sexism, that's shrewd negotiating.

You've never been married. You'll get plenty of opinions. Don't seek them out.

Actually, I've been married for 18 years ...

Ok, you don’t have to believe. But, it’s true. Perhaps it’s because you’ve never been confronted with a complete douche canoe making loads of cash more than you with no clear business explanation.

Maybe you are little less smart, took time off to have a baby, bring in less business, younger than the average male in that role.. Who knows. A whole bunch of reasons.

BTW, did you actually check payroll records in your company to determine you are being paid 2/3 less than your male peers? Just curious..
