It all boils down to this:

Men but attractiveness high on the list.
Women put success and power high on the list

On average, younger women are more attractive. Although of course some women maintain their looks as they age. It's no different for men, they are objectively more attractive in their 30s than in their 50s.

But since men are prized or objectified for other reasons, looks arent as big or a deal to lose

40 year old woman here and I was just thinking the same thing. 61 is too old for me. My limit would be about 53, but preferably 40-45.

He's got a bit of a belly but other than that is in pretty good shape. I am a size 4 and am about the same weight as when I got married in my early 30's.

The only way a 60+ yr old man can get a 40 yr old woman is:

1. he has lots and lots of money

You can call me shallow but we are all shallow to some degree or really hideous people who can't help their looks would have just as much success with finding partners as anyone else. That said, I see a big difference. I find her looks pleasing, but that isn't enough to sustain a relationship. It's the whole person. If looks were all that mattered to me, I'd go even younger than 40s. Either way, I'm with someone I desire and enjoy. I read #3 on this list as saying, a lot of women would choose a man she doesn't desire and just tolerate his old ass, as long he has money. Clearly you do care as it seems to bother you a lot. much tat you can't believe that any woman in her 40s could stand to be with me unless there is some serious flaw in her thinking or other nefarious motivations. The only women I know with partners 10+ years older were 1) from messed up families, absent dad, divorce or 2) broke. If given a choice, women would marry someone their age or less than 4 years older. Psychology Today has a study about the age difference. The age gap is larger for second marriages because women have to settle for inferior older men because a high percentage of the top ones (younger, healthier, at the top of their earning period) are already taken.

Basically, then, everyone is sleazy. Someone who is about 15 years younger is young enough to be your child. By your standard a 50 year old who fantasizes about someone in their 30s is "sleazy."

All women (and men) want someone who is better looking, wealthier, higher status, and/or younger. But they are limited to whatever they can actually get. Anyone with half-a-brain knows that he or she is nothing more than the best that their partner could do. If their partner could have "done better," they would have done better when they had the chance. Only children believe in "the one" and "finding their soulmate."
