OP again. We did not get any aid - and next year will be the third year in a row with two kids in private SLACS. Yes, on paper, we are judged by those schools to be doing well, but we are in that limbo position, where it’s a large burden nonetheless. UVA will be between 35 grand and 40 grand cheaper than the two private alternatives. And we have a youngest child who’s a freshman in high school.

That said, we do get a $3,300 break off of the W&L bill because we are in-state. Who knew, but all VA kids get a $3,300 discount off the price of any in- state private college/university courtesy of the VA state legislature. Doesn’t dent the 65 grand price tag much, but who will turn down free money?

Yes. PLUS we pay our CPA to do the filing. All we get out of it are the minimum $5500 loans. Donut hole family.

My DC didn't like Uva, and doesn't really want to be in 13th grade with a bunch of Nova kids DC has been with since AAP days.

Davidson has better reputation for undergraduate teaching, high marks for "profs are accessible," although also it's also reputed to be much tougher academically.

Will visit on accepted students day and see how DC likes it.

We are attending Decision Davidson ourselves. Older sibling is at Davidson so we know how wonderful a school it is.

Tell me, please. Happy DC got in, but not real impressed by their list of majors/minors which I consider to be quite limited.
But the 4 year graduation rate can't be argued with!

W&L is 82% greek, the highest percent of any school in the country.
I scratched them for this reason, but otherwise it seems a high quality and very respected college.
