Where can I find the information that DCs decision not to proceed with Shaw Middle would be based on Cardozo not reaching capacity? I missed that bulletin/notification. I appreciate transparency. Thank you.

That second part surely should require input from all the feeder schools, right? All of the information from the 2014 boundaries announces the Shaw Middle feeder down the road. If final decisions are about to be made parents should certainly have a heads up.

Welcome to DC!

Opening Shaw was always contingent on Cardozo approaching capacity. That has obviously not happened.

Also by saying that it could one day be a DCPS middle school, DCPS prevented the building from having to be leased to a charter school.

Why don't you all just call the listed DGS point of contact and ask what's going on? It seems to be the same person as was working on Garrison's reno.

Yesterday they announced the partnership with Bard College, and that a decision would be made in 'a few months' as to where it will be located - in a vacant school building or co-housed with an existing school.

On Twitter a principal was quoted saying that their school was mentioned as a potential location, and yesterday was the first they heard about it.
Which school / principal?

It seems like the city plans to make quick decisions without any opportunity for comment. Hiding behind an ANC meeting is not appropriate. This affects way more people than that. They can still make a decision but I don’t understand such a closed process and lack of transparency.

Chancellors town halls / input meetings into new chancellor selection
ANCs
Call or write your council member
Contact the DME

However, tThe ANC is the city's established and legally required venue for community input on virtually every issue, including school locations and closings/openings. Perhaps yours isn't very active or effective but that is who city officials are required to involve and listen to. What does your rep say?

I believe Banneker is the best performing HS in the city, not no. 2.
