^whatever. Dems caved so we’re done — and good luck DACA kids. As little appetite as there was to help now, I think it keeps declining.

There is nothing that's going to change in the next three weeks, and I am so sick of the games. Stay out a few more days to figure this all out if that's what's needed.

Agreed. I don't think McConnell is making promises in good faith and we're not going to magically have a better solution in 3 weeks. We also can't get all of our work done that needs to be contracted out, we can't release sufficient funds with these incredibly short CRs.

Do you feel that there should be an understanding in writing regarding brining DACA to the floor as McConnell has now promised? He’s made similar promises before and hasn’t kept to his word. Should democrats insist on some written assurance before they agree?

McConnell did. better than a written promise. He went on t.v. and gave everyone a nice sound bite to use against him if he reneges.

However he was very specific in his language. He didn't promise to bring a daca bill that democrats would like to a vote. So that's his promise, and &is warning to democrats: you have until Feb. 8 to make a deal McConnell likes, but if you don't, you'll be getting a vote on legislation you might not like very.much at all.

Hmm, so you're saying McConnell could adequately fulfill his end of the "deal" by bringing absolutely any version of DACA reform he wants to the floor? For example, he could bring a bill that says all DACA children will be immediately rounded up and deported, and that fulfills his promise, in your mind. Is that what you're saying?

If so, then don't you think Democrats are justified in telling him to shove this false deal up his ass?

It shouldn't be that hard -- but somehow it is....

Because hardly any Republicans want to vote on record in support of CHIP or DACA, despite those programs polling as popular. They’re afraid of their base.

Nope, that's not it. All the Republicans would be happy to vote for CHIP and many/most would also be happy to vote for DACA. McConnell isn't bringing these to vote because he's not sure what Trump wants. And Trump isn't sure what Trump wants, so McConnell has been waiting...

Why do you think the republicans want these two things? If you understood republicans you would know they do not want to support either program.

Not a fed but a contractor here. I am vascillating but I am wondering if it’s better to just get it done too. But it doesn’t even look like they could “get it done” right now or over the next couple weeks bc MCConnell (Trump?) is not interested in negotiating.

The timing really screwed my work group bc we are supposed to be at a conference this week and had to cancel a bunch of accommodations etc, so if they open back up tomorrow, this week has still been wasted. I would hate to do this again in a few weeks.

Think I feel the same. If I believed McConnell would bring anything to a vote it would be different. And if the House doesn’t promise anything not sure that any progress has been made. We can’t just keep going from cr to cr.

+1 I'm supposed to travel for work the following week and it's in limbo until something longer gets done.

Exactly. McConnell is refusing to allow for votes on CHIP and DACA. If he would allow a vote, there's more than 50 (Dems + Republicans) for both of those. He's holding them hostage.

Both Rs and Ds are talking about adding a written agreement about McConnell's intention to the CR. If that happens, then I'm confident that the CR will pass. If not, I'm slightly less confident but expect that it will.

As much as I distrust McConnell, if I were a Dem senator I would be setting that language up to trigger something punitive to McConnell if he doesn't keep his word, like removing him from leadership of the Senate, perhaps removing him from the Senate completely.
