And why are people offended by the term housewife? The term is still used as evidenced by the Bravo TV shows. I’m not trying to be a smartass. Functionally, what is the difference between a housewife and the relatively new term, “SAHM”? When you think about it, the term housewife makes one envision a mom who does not work but spends much of her time cleaning, cooking and looking after the home for her family. A SAHM just means that you 1) do not work and 2) stay home but doesn’t say anything else about how you spend your time. This is why I prefer the terms “housewife”and “working mom” vs. SAHM and WOHM.

On an application you would be forced to put “unemployed” right? Even if you claim what you do at home is “work” you’d be considered a volunteer because you aren’t paid. Not understanding why people get insulted by it and that’s what people think anyway. Maybe DCUM should come up with a new more accurate term.

Riding boots went out of style a couple years ago. The vests have evolved into being a cool weather staple, not a fashion statement.

And for what it's worth, I think young women are more beautiful on the whole than they were back in my day maybe thanks to instagram/youtube tutorials and better skin/dental care.

hmmm...most I see are in active wear.

So, I don't think that bitchy behavior is exclusive to the SAHMs, but, I do think there is some truth to the fact that SAHMs are able to spend more time in their kids' schools. So, they do often tend to run things socially at a school. I am seeing it with my preschool and its our first rodeo with school. The SAHMs who chat at drop off, perfectly coiffed in riding boots and quilted burberry are a different breed than the ones who drop off in yoga pants and sneakers. They are more cliquish and not as friendly to outsiders. This is a preschool in Chevy Chase.

I am not even commenting on the attractiveness of these women. I am just talking about attitudes and attire.

There were a bunch of quilted vests in stores in fall. We can't wear these anymore?
