Actually it does make sense. As a perfect example, just look at all of the gay sex scandals that have happened over the years involving right wing political figures who were publicly viciously anti-gay. They are trying to deny what they are.

I'm not positing this is the reason people join - people join groups for all kinds of reasons.

The unfathomable is not the impossible. These are the truest words I've read recently. They come from this articleThe Nationalist's Dilemma. The writer was referring to the "ridiculous" belief that Trump supporters are racist, but it applies to the idea that a Jewish person would join a white power group.

Unfathomable? For some people. Impossible? Uh, no.
