Sorry if this has been stated somewhere already (not reading the whole thread b/c my kids are in or done w/ TPMS magnet), but when it came to the magnet test used in recent years, the non verbal reasoning was the most coachable part of the test! Far moreso than reading comp. The quantitative comparison section was also coachable, but the Raven part was the easiest to get a big bump in performance with just a little strategy. I found info myself -- no hiring or paying for materials (though I used to teach standardized test prep for Princeton Review, so I am no stranger to this game).

I believe you are referring to test score averages within races. So the average AA student may score lower than the average white student. But that says nothing about whether there are kids in the top 1% of every race (there are).
