I said money buys talent (from a business pov)...never said it makes talent (from a DNA pov).

Point being, if you are talented enough you will be found.

Aren't we talking about developing youth soccer players? Either you were I. A different conversation entirely or your point wasn't relevant to the conversation.

In Rec, the coaches get a lot of grief from the league for blowouts where the score is more than 6 goals apart. But in travel, since it is travel (and top teams) do different rules apply?

They shouldn't, but we have seen many, many complete blowouts in regular season play with not too much attempt to damper them.

When my husband coached, he would have the kids complete a long set of passes before anyone was allowed to shoot---or only use non-dominant foot. Kids were played out of position---goalie at striker, etc.

I've seen it backfire and become more humiliating---like when every kid on the winning side is saying really loudly 'guys we can't score, etc'. OR--kids going right up to opposing goal and then turning around and dribbling back.

At the littlest ages---there should be some type of mercy rule.

IN TOURNAMENT PLAY---completely different standard since goal differential is important. But---tournaments are, for the most part, better matched up teams.

I actually think that a X number of passes makes no sense. Usually the team that is getting whopped isn't pressing anyway, so the backs play a couple of passes back and forth to each other. If they don't, I think it causes bad habits anyway. I think the losing team adding a player if allowed is best. The winning team could remove a player. I agree to have the better players play GK and/or defense, things like that. You still want the kids to try and make good decisions, you just want it harder for them. Another is to back the press off and try to win the ball in your defensive half and, when you do, play the GK and start from the GK.

The travel league rules don't allow an extra player like they did in Rec which is why you can at least work on touches/passes.

^^ That question is for the FCV stat parent to answer.

Ever notice how people only rely on stats when it benifits them.

Money can buy talent...ask Neymar.

I don't want to get otherwise involved in correcting all of this poster's errors, but I think it's important to recognize that Neymar comes from a working-class background, at best. Part of the inspiring Legend of Neymar is that his family didn't have a secure place to live for most of his childhood. His world-class talent is something money definitely didn't buy. What this suggests is that great players can come from any socioeconomic background.

This is pretty funny. I stopped reading after "great random teams in NCSL or ODSL". There are zero great teams in ODSL.

I don't know about great, but don't overlook the ODSL teams that can't meet NCSL requirements (and thus can't join NCSL) yet have talented rosters. In most cases it's a team that a parent coaches because his son or daughter just happens to be that age, and the players are skilled because they've grown up with the game in family settings. Great? Probably not, but they'll can certainly blow teams out.

Agree to an extent. Let's say it more clearly: ODSL has some ass-kicking teams of poor Hispanic kids being coached by their crazy dads. Greatness isn't out of reach.

Greatness isnt out of reach? Please elobarate

Money can't buy athletic ability. It can't buy a family that lives and breathes soccer. Children from Herndon and Wheaton and Hybla Valley are just as capable of becoming great soccer players as your DS from Great Falls, and they may have advantages you're afraid to recognize.

Pump your brakes Ms. Social justice snowflake.

Money can buy talent...ask Neymar.
Money does buy talent...ask the Emirates
Want opportunity then make yourself valuable....called capitalism.
Want your kid to play travel soccer...make more money or ask for a scholarship.

There are no poor places in Nova...please stop
Survival or travel soccer?...pick survival
Not all Hispanics like soccer
Watching soccer doesn't make you talented...much like NFL
Your parents liking the Redskins won't make you a Redskin.
The majority of the world watches soccer and the majority still suck.

I'm bored...going to watch the Redskins

You're poor, so watch Redskins?!!

I think the PSG game on Sunday had more attacking the other football matches.
