Those won't be boundaries in any traditional sense. It would just be a lottery program for school assignments. And it would send parents fleeing to privates and other school systems. No one buys in Vienna so their kids can be bussed to Annandale. Even the Democrats know that.
Let them go if they don't believe in a quality education for all students.

Anonymous wrote:Unless you want to bus kids all over the place, it's natural that there are going to be economic differences between schools in a district as large and dense as Fairfax. There are pockets of low income housing and pockets of very high income housing and pockets that are in the middle. If you assign schools by location, which is the easiest and most obvious solution, then these economic differences are inevitable. Isn't the good thing that Fairfax provides the same resources to all of the high schools so even if the student body is different they should, in theory, have the same opportunities. Is this not true?
I know many people who have sent their kids to West Potomac that have done very, very well. They have excellent music and arts there, good quality teachers, and the same course offerings as other AP high schools.

They'd need to change the MS assignments, too, of course. Then the kids don't want to pupil place.
Seems like an awful lot of unnecessary hassle and disruption of a LOT of people who are happy and settled.
Not going to happen. Fcps is not going to go out of their way to swap 1200+ kids from the high school and middle school they are each closest to and moving them to a school they are far from with no justificstion for so drastically lowering the quality of school zone for 600 families.
Where is it written that lower test scores in a higher-FRAMS school always means a lower-quality school?
When pablum like this appears on your school's web page, it's a good indication of a lower-quality school: "We are Life-long learners who Excel as Engaged global citizens."
This came right off Lee's FCPS profile. If something equally insipid had made its way onto West Springfield's profile, the parents would have demanded revisions. FCPS definitely needs to redistrict Lee and West Springfield.

I think people are discounting the revitalization from the mall and now the TSA. I'm not sure redrawing boundaries would do a better job of improving Lee than Fairfax county is already doing.
