It's a good thing the girl learned a lesson now not to assualt anyone before it would become too late and she end up dead as an adult

Not nice.
Also seems like this girl may have a social disorder.
True, calling her by a nickname was not nice. Scratching and punching was assault. VERY different things.

As a parent of a boy, I'm less concerned about "okay, yay or nay" and what might happen to both kids as a result. (imagining that instead of being 12 they are sixteen when the boy is likely to be much larger).
To me, the question isn't about equality or who is right- it's about what is safe and who most likely to be hurt.
Over 1/2 of all female homicides are related to intimate partner violence--maybe everyone needs to learn better conflict resolution, maybe we need better gun laws, I don't know. But the fact is that in any conflict between a man and a woman, the woman is far more likely to be injured or killed.

This is so old school. A lawyer would have a field day with this if these were adults. The guy would win hands down.
See Joe Mixon reference above. Just tried to find a verdict where the man was found not at fault for hitting a woman in "self defense". Not old school. Just reality.
