You want passive aggressive, spend some time in the deep south! Took me a while to decipher insults because they were always delivered with a saccharine smile....

DC Native. Lived in the Bay for several years. The lack of understanding of sarcasm and most people's inability to spell made me think everyone from CA was a complete moron. Nice, but stupid. Also, they either thought I was the funniest person they had ever met, which was sort of annoying because I am sort of medium funny on the East Coast, or they looked at me like I was an alien. All of it was weird and they just seemed so dumb to me.

Northeast more direct, not passive.
Southeast slow and more behind the back stuff.

You can't categorically claim all of the east coast similar as unlike West Coast--northeast and southeast are VERY different.

I hate passive and phony so I prefer polite but direct.

The SW desert, California, and the PNW are all very different. There has been ongoing immigration from CA up into Oregon, though, so much so a lot of Portlanders aren't native Oregonians anymore.
