Wootton is 45.6% white. 36.7% Asian. 6% Black and 7.4% Hispanic. FARMS 5%. ESOL <5%.
Whitman is 67.5% white. 14.3% Asian. <5% Black and 9.6% Hispanic. FARMS <5% ESOL <5%.
Blair is 22.3% white, 15.3% Asian. 24.5% Black and 33.5% Hispanic. FARMS 36% ESOL 14.9%.
I think diversity is somewhat relative to wherever you are sitting. Wootton looks diverse from the perspective of Whitman but not from the perspective of Blair.
I'm not sure what the 4 means (back to the original post). They are all good schools and I don't hear much of a difference between the high schools in MCPS.

The 4 means it's a bad school and a "Child endangerment" environment; at least that's what Whitman parents and boosters used to say to schools ranked 5 or less.

The 4 in the OP is a reference to the Great Schools ranking of Walt Whitman. I think it was an 8 before, and this year it's a 4 due to bad PARCC test results.

Those Whitman students are such slackers!![]()
PARCC was supposed to be harder than the old Maryland test so it seems like they just aren't up to that level of education yet.

But I am a little worried about the test scores, teen pregnancy rates and falling graduation rates. Plus a lot of the new students end up topping out at age 21 and not graduating on time.

Now lets go back to the serious question of Whitman.
Why would anyone send their kids to a school rated 4?
Isn't that "Child endangerment?"![]()

I don't go to Wootton but live nearby and it is very diverse. It doesn't have to be half poor and half Latino to be diverse.

Correct. Such a school is biracial, not diverse--especially when the FARMS rate is <=10%
A distinction between "biracial" and "diverse", good grief. Biracial IS diverse.
Do you also consider Whitman to be "lily white" (something I often read on DCUM), even though 1 in 4 Whitman students is not white?
Diverse (adj.)
(b) of various kinds or forms; multiform.
Source:http://www.dictionary.com/browse/diverse
Biracial != multiracial
therefore, biracial != diverse.
QED.
Multi = more than one. Biracial is multiracial.
