I don't think any influx is detrimental. I am an immigrant myself. But, yes, I would say that it is my impression that middle class Americans avoid areas with any immigrant population, especially Muslim. I am not justifying it or saying it is right, just that it is a reality.
NoVa isn't white bread middle class and hasn't been for a long time.

These areas are not remotely middle class. UMC professionals in Fairfax welcome anyone who can afford their neighborhoods, including Muslims or others from the Middle East.

NoVa has higher housing costs than MoCo and there are more Middle Eastern people with money there than there are Jews with money in MoCo. Not that there aren't also a lot of Iranians in Potomac.

Thomas Jefferson is one of the top five high schools in the country. Not the COUNTY, the country. As in USA. Blair isn't even sniffing this list. You can cherry pick every little fractal of data you want, it won't make it true.
Many kids who transferred from Blair magnet to TJ, who were average or bottom students at Blair magnet
they were instantly at the top of the class at TJ without a slightest effort.

It is designed to look that way, because they gathered top kids from schools and a lot of them in one place. No other places do that so if you compare TJ to either regular high schools or partial magnets
then what is the big deal? Of course it better be something right?
But from the perspective of a child, not only it does not matter because you can get to a great Ivy from any good high school just the same or better because each Ivy limits amount of kids accepted from one school.
So if you apply to MIT and so does other 300 kids from TJ, do you thin they all get in? Think again.
But if 3 kids apply from a High School, 3 kids get in.

OMG Blair Troll. There is no source for this. Neither TJ nor Blair publicly report in Harvard admissions for privacy reasons because there are less than 10 from either school most years. I'm a TJ parent and I cannot find out with certainty how many kids got into Harvard last year. It's that way with many Ivys. TJ only consistently hits double digits with "STEM" IVys (MIT, Stanford) and Yale, Columbia and Brown. The rest are mysteries. For some reason a lot of TJ kids get into Yale each each year. Special STEM program? At any rate, TJ kids tend to track top 10 engineering. The are going to Cal Tech, U Illinois Champagne, VA Tech, GA Tech, CWRU etc. in high numbers. Often on scholarship. Which is good it's a STEM school.
But, TJ is doing fine on college admits. I'm sure Blair is too. Never have I seen such hoopla about a program that serves less than 100 kids for the whole county. Sidwell is less obnoxious than Blair.
Oh, there is a plenty a source. Parents of kids who get into Harvard brag about it no end
and if you happen to know people in both - Blair and TJ then you are in the know.

from the perspective of an average person living in FX.
