I have an idea, let's move it to your neighborhood right next to the school and see how you feel. I think that's a great idea. There's no screening these people to see if they're mentally unstable which a lot are. This is a safety issue and as other have noted it brings crime

I live in courthouse, there is homeless shelter by the metro about 1/2 mile from where I live and 3 or 4 blocks from the elementary school. I am fine with it.

Clarendon is densely commercial. I think that's ideal for a homeless shelter. No issue there so long as it isn't next to a school library or senior center.

We just explained there was a shelter in Courthouse right near an elementary school.

PPs point was in close-in "nice" neighborhoods like Courthouse and Clarendon there are shelters and homeless people and it has not impacted crime or housing prices.

It's in Courthouse which is less popular for buyers and renters than Clarendon. The shelter has ruined the Reston library. Where people used to park outdoors is now becoming apt's.

Your conservative policies are partly to blame for the rampant homeless problem. Your so-called war on crime has created a HUGE problem with thousands upon thousands of Americans unable to find work because of a felony conviction and large percentage end up back in jail or on the streets. I vote conservative but I am definitely for reforming our criminal justice system and will vote for a Democrat if they show a true devotion to this cause.

3. People living in 1-2 million dollar homes are no more worthy than anyone else. I say this as I type from such a home.
4. There is always a daycare somewhere. I have yet to hear stories of homeless people invading daycares.
