That's Capitol Hill or NOMA, where you can get a house for $1million but it'll only have three or four bedrooms, no yard and street parking.
Oh please....you can buy a similar cape in a much nicer part of DC for less than a million. Try AU Park or Barnaby Woods...those areas are less expensive than Arlington's Country Club Hills...

Even so, it's not DC, and there are any number of other more expensive suburbs in VA and MD, albeit with less need for constant affirmation of their value.

Not really. 22207 is now the fifth most expensive zip code in the area, despite having many apartments on Lorcom and lower priced homes in Halls Hill....but whatever works for you.

That's the way it is. You need to make peace with it. I've been here 15 years and accepted that we can't afford that.
+1. Also, a 5 bedroom, 2600 square foot house is not really "nice and normal" in this area. That's a really nice, renovated, and large house. Probably twice the size of the houses our parents grew up in in the post-War period.
+2. C'mon, OP. The homes of "nice and normal" people in Arlington are 2.5-3 BR, 1400 sq ft, with no renovations. And you will still pay more than $500k for them (sometimes a lot more)--if you can compete with the builders who are offering cash to knock them down.
Not many homes in the Old Glebe neighborhood or anywhere near it for 500k...unless you go back in time 15 years
