I had to go back and see if I wrote this. I work for a non-profit. Part-time. Typically between 20-25 hours a week. My kids are grown, except for one high school senior at home. I only make about $30k a year. Basically play money. The work is meaningful and interesting. My co-workers are wonderful people. My commute is 1.2 miles. My hours are mostly flexible.

My DH retires in five years. We'll be 55. He'll likely do some consulting work and I'll hopefully keep this job till I'm too old to walk. We plan to spend most of our time sailing and traveling. And most importantly, hanging out with out grandkids.

I left the full-time working world 27 years ago when our oldest was born. I went back part-time once they were all in school. I'll never work full-time again, God willing.

I make $110K, work 9:30-6 M-F, occasional overtime and travel, long commute. I have a 2 year old and it's becoming too much for me. Strongly considering finding PT work or taking a leave of absence until I figure things out

I work fulltime, 8-5. I make $220,000 plus bonus.

40y social worker making 75k. No, it isn't as impressive as many of you, but pretty decent for social work with no weekends/nights and a pretty standard 8 hr/work day. Plus, I love what I do and can't imagine doing anything else.

I am 44, Fed worker 2 kids (1 grown and on her own, 1 in preschool) GS 14 (roughly about $110K)
I telework fulltime - and I can set my hours (as long as I am in during core hours of 9-3) - no evenings, no overtime, 40 hours a week
I like the lifestyle my job affords me. I was working making twice that in private sector - but was working all day, evenings and weekends. I was drained. I got to take great vacations- but honestly- I couldn't keep up that pace forever. This pace is much more manageable and the culture is VERY family friendly. I can take off with a sick child or take a couple of weeks off to take an extended vacation.

33, journalist, 1 kid, 62k. Some flexibility in hours but not as much with current employer as I could/should have given what I do. They're also ramping up my travel...did 5 out-of-town 4-day trips last year (3 while still nursing) and they have me slated for 6 this year. NOT happening -- they can hire freelancers or I quit and go freelance myself. It's way too hard on my family.

I'm 34 with one kid, main breadwinner at 125k. I work 40 hours a week, flexible, can telework. I am a licensed physician who could probably make so much more but would then have little time or energy for my family. So I made my choice, and we continue to rent. Lol!!!

I'm 34 with 2 kids (2 and 4). Just recently switched to a new position at a nonprofit legal organization making $75k, very predictable 9:30-5 hours with no evening or weekend work, great people and family-friendly culture.

I took a huge paycut when I left biglaw after being there for about 3.5 years. The money is the only thing I miss! Could not stand the stress. I'm fortunate that DH makes a good salary of around $200k so I can take this lower paying position.

Right there with you. I make $93k. This job is such a huge leap from my last pay that I felt super rich when I took the position. Reading what everyone else makes is shocking though. Different industries, I guess.

Where do you work and are you hiring?

I work 40 hours a week - 100K - I can pick the hours - 8-4:30 right now - I may shift that when my son heads to school. I work from home, never work weekends, and when I am off- I am off- no email, phone calls etc. Before this- I worked a job in which I was on call constantly- most evenings were spent on the phone- as well as weekends. I was also making substantially more. It was so worth it to take the pay cut. I would do it again in an instant.

I work 40ish hours a week in small law, make low 200s but rarely work evenings or weekends (except for some occasional emails). I obviously could make more working more, but I like my lifestyle and the control that I have over my work. I really like my work, but not being at my desk everyday or worrying about bringing in more clients. If I had the money, I'd quit, though I'd probably get into advocacy on some of the issue that really touches me.

I'm a school psychologist making $100k. I work from 7:30-2:45. I have 10 weeks off a year and federal holidays/sick leave. It's a pretty sweet gig
