This year one family said they couldn't go. So the other two split the cost to pay for the reservation. Then the third family changed their mind and decided to join. So they paid their share to the families that already paid for the house.
The vacation is still two weeks away. Now one of the families had an emergency. Their DC broke an arm and they can't go to the beach.
Is it fair to ask the other families for a refund? Given it's most likely they will be using their room.

Your child can go to the beach. At worst, you put a garbage bag over with and secure it at the top with rubber bands, at best you get your regular cast replaced with a waterproof one. I am shocked you weren't asked do at the ortho when it went on. How long is the cast for? Kids these days need them for as little as two weeks sometimes.
You should already know whether you need surgery, I am not buying that you are going To find out and still don't know. If your child hasn't had surgery, then there are no open wounds on the skin. How is your child bathing? How is that different from wading in the pool or the ocean? Believe me, your ortho is going to say you can go.
You sound like you already made up your mind you don't want to go because you don't want to watch your child on thebeach during sunny days, but God forbid, what was your back up plan IF IT RAINS?????
Wow. I didnt think this was very survivable. I remember seeing an episode ages ago of that home improvement show where they put in squishy rubber floors all over for a boy that maybe had that?
Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:. Frankly, if I was one of the other families and you asked for a refund, not only would I not cover for you, but I would probably not want to include you on vacation plans in the future as you seem like a difficult person to deal with.
Can you contain yourself and not make personal insults and labels? It's just a discussion.
Hopefully, my friends are more understanding than you. When the other family decided to join us we could have said "no" too. Because we already booked a house and it's a little tight for so many people. We could have said they were "difficult" because twice before they said they would not be going. But yet we agreed. Because this is what friends do for each other. And because things happen.

Then teach your child to enjoy the nature! WTF? Is it so difficult to hang out with your kid for the week? Go for walks, wade in, look for sea glass, set up an umbrella and play games. The possibilities are endless.
The possibilities are NOT endless. If you have to fill 8 hours with a 6 year old in 100 degree heat. If you've been there you'd know that walks on a beach under a burning sun in 95+ degrees are not fun. Staying in the house defeats the purpose of traveling.
And I'm not going to put myself in a position where I have to entertain a kid all day every day for a week - make up activities and games to fill time. I have a life too, you know.
So the only possibility is if the child can be in the water. I'll order a waterproof cover and wait and see what the doctor will tell us.
well there is it. OP is going to be a self centered bitch and spoil the fun for everyone, because she cant or doesnt want to come up with activities for her 6 yo. WOW
I sure wish I knew these other 2 familes so this post could be shared with them. I wouldnt give you one dime back. Suck it up
I have a 6 yo and can think of a LOT of stuff to keep him busy with, both with my attention as well as on his own. Unreal!
Anonymous wrote:I am definitely in the "go to the beach" camp. However, I would like to note that even the "waterproof" fiberglass casts should not get wet because they don't dry out quickly enough which causes a lot of nasty skin problems. I don't think anyone uses plaster anymore - they all use fiberglass, but you still can't get it wet.

The PP is an ass, but I think you're also being purposely obtuse. There's nothing else to do at this rental? You planned on being in the water from sun up to sun down every day of vacation? Really? Why would you pay to travel to Florida in a place nice enough to split with two other families when you could have done the same here for the price of a community pool pass?
Speak for yourself. I pay to enjoy the nature. There are dolphins and turtles, and dunes. This is not a tourist trap and there are no attractions, no entertainment. Maybe a couple small stores, tops. Yet if you're not in the water, you can't just seat out on a hot day there.
What else can you do in the rental? You can stay inside the house. Why would I travel so far to do that?
I'm looking into waterproof cast covers. And waiting what the orthopedic specialist will say.
Honestly I can't believe you'd cancel your vacation over this - particularly when there are other kids involved. But to each his own. Your original question though about refund? You should not expect one. What have the other families said? Its really up to them how they want to handle this.
