So does this mean those of us with JH transfers won't need to worry about applying to private school for 2016-2017?

Does he not understand the impact redistricting has on City real estate through delay in redistricting decisions?

It's not a good decision to put off redisctricting once again. Just get it done so facts can be known to sellers and buyers. You don't need a committee anyway in reality. This is an ACPS Board decision based on numbers. Get real.

Even with the new timeline, the redistricting plan will be finalized by next May. So the real estate market will know what the new zones will be (about three months later than the original timeline.) It just won't take effect until 2017-2018.

I don't think the impact on real estate market should be high on the priority list when planning for capacity, but I don't think this delay makes much of a difference, since the zones will still be decided within the next few months.

Main reason for pushing back is that the Superintendent just released a new CIP that adds a new elementary school in the west end for the 2017-2018 school year (using leased commercial space.) The redistricting needs to take into account the new elementary. The biggest capacity issues are in the west end, and no amount of redistricting is really going to solve the problem without the addition of more capacity.

I think it's crazy that the Superintendent didn't provide that information prior to the committee starting work. I mean if he knew he was increasing capacity in the West End, why wouldn't he just say that up front? What other surprises will come up during the process?

It's budget season. They have to go through the budget process and actually approve the CIP capacity projects. Then there's the City budget process that goes up until May. The City Council could very well reject requested funding levels and not provide enough money to do any of this. So there could be many surprises.

Wow thanks for posting. I would guess that many of the employees live in Alexandria given that their office is in Del Ray, and I'd wager that a decent subset have kids in the schools. Their office is in Mt Vernon School district, but the next block over is Jeff-Houston....wonder if they will "redistrict" themselves

Interesting choice. I wonder how many employees have children in ACPS schools?

They haven't drawn new maps yet.

Um, yes. These are where the FARMS kids are bused in from -- otherwise, GM would be a lily-white school.
