The only thing I take from this whole thread is that OP is actually more discriminating herself than she cares to admit. She also profiles (yoga pants? Kate Spade purse?) more than she cares to admit and thinks it's all ok because she goes to church. Her story sucks and she needs to realize that there is real racism in this country.

I posted previously about the arbitrator sticking it to you because you brought your child to work. I practice in D.C. Superior Court and have NEVER heard of a childcare subsidy. There is a daycare onsite but there is no such thing as a subsidy and there are no income restrictions regarding who can use the Court's care. Even so, OP could have asked her friend or husband to watch the baby or requested a date when she had childcare. Its really disrespectful to the judicial system to bring your child with you. Its the equivalent of bringing your child to a very serious work meeting. You wouldn't do it yet you are bringing your child to the judge's job. In your case the arbitrator was probably just being passive aggressive and stuck it to you because of that. Also, I am AA and women AA judges have been the meanest ones in my cases. I do not know why but my heart always sinks when I walk into Court and I see one on the bench.

That coupled with OP's attitude....and the fact that she was indeed speeding....horrors....she had to pay her speeding ticket.

I am an attorney. The arbitrator was probably annoyed because you brought your baby with you. Judges HATE it when defendants/respondents do not arrange for childcare. It is annoying to everyone. Think about it. Most of the people there probably had children but respected the judicial process enough to arrange for some type of care for their children.

I went to court to fight the ticket. The case was heard by a an arbitrator (who happened to be a black female). I was in a room with about 25-30 black people who were there also fighting their various traffic tickets. They were a variety of ages ranging from teens to elderly, men and women, well dressed to looking like bums. I came dressednicely for court and with my infant in a Bjorn.
The arbitrator called everyone else first (not sure if this was random, purposeful or whatever, but if it were alphabetical, I would not have been last. I also arrived early for said court date so it was not because I was late).
The arbitrator DISMISSED each and every person's ticket who was there. One woman even had a double red light violation (coming and going on the same day). I was the only person whose ticket/case was NOT dismissed. (many other speeders who were going MUCH faster were dismissed).
This was clearly a case of rasism on the part of the arbitrator. I was furious. While I paid the ticket, I did call the supervisor over there and informed them of what had occurred. I only hope some action was taken to correct this arbitrator's behavior and blatant racism and abuse of her power.
Forgot to mention, I was the only white person in the courtroom, aside from my 7 month old infant.
Of course racism goes both ways OP, but your example is comical. Come up with something that better resembles what the other side experiences.
An example of what the other side experiences would be the identical story but switch the races of all the people in the scenario!
No there are much worse examples from the other side, and examples that happened more recently than nine years ago.
