I think with Longo on the case, they will be found, they will be tried, they will be found guilty and they will serve time. Some other websites are already outing possible suspects by posting links to people based on information given out in the Rolling Stone article.

Thank you to victims of these horrible events and to RS for making us all listen. I was incredibly close to being a victim myself in a situation described so clearly in the article (freshman, spiked sweet punch, taken to a quiet space) but luckily, got out with the help of a friend. I never drank again.

In addition to rethinking the value of a social Greek system, I also think we need to better inform our women on how to protect themselves from sexual predators. This starts long before college with helping to develop a healthy self esteem and life long goals.

It continues with knowing that binge drinking leads to bad things and that certain situations in college just aren't safe anymore. For example, going to a frat party without a dedicated wing woman (who you never leave alone!), never venturing to a quiet space alone with a guy you don't really know, or even going on a "date" unless the gentleman in question has been fully vetted. Funny enough, these are all things you would do to protect yourself as an adult dating in the "real world."

Problem is, college leaves women particularly vulnerable because they are made to feel as if they are part of a larger but intimate community that will protect them. They are not. They are part of a community who will try to educate them but beyond that, they are on their own.

Finally, self defense lessons, pepper spray and rape alarms may just need to be the everyday artillery of our college women until frats are dismantled altogether.

The one downfall of the RS article is the fact that Jackie's rape was so atypical (no drinking involved) and so brutal. I hope it doesn't make women feel like their event is lesser, therefore it should not be reported. It should and with any luck, justice will prevail.

I am really hoping Anonymous will out the rapist that set her up. He doesn't seem so hard to find. How many third years were there in that fraternity? Are there around 20 to 25 members of each class in a fraternity? How many were lifeguards their third year?

geez, that story was damn horrific. and disturbing and sad. all the denial was surely for preservation of the university endowment, no doubt. that is what it amounts to - power and money.

as a taxpayer, i want funds revoked from that sorry excuse of a pillar of higher education.
