I know someone who was an economics major and wound up in jail from defrauding clients.

I'm an non drinker (religious reasons) and even I would NOT want to hang out with a non drinker like OP. If you want to drink -- great -- what does it matter to me? As long as you're not drinking like you're a college kid and getting sick and making me take care of you, have fun. If you don't want to drink, great. I'm happy to hang out with people who drink or don't or drink sometimes -- as long as we talk about something BESIDES drinking and people don't sit there and preach about why it's necessary to drink or why it's better not to drink. Who cares? I'm hanging out with you for the company, not for your evaluation of how to live my life.

the cdc has shown that alcohol-related deaths due to over-consumption (so not drunk driving) has gone up over the last 15 years.

The drinking culture, especially in large urban areas, is out of control IMO.
