Struck out for K. Best shot is single digits for MV. Other three numbers are in the teens and twenties, but none of these schools (SWS, K-A, Brent) are likely to get that far, I don't think. Unless someone wants to tell me otherwise. In which case, go ahead and fill me with false hope.

Thank you, our daughter's coop teacher said it's good for preschool and suggested we look into it for its diversity (our daughter is Asian while we are of European/Latin American heritage).
I live right across the street from Seaton. There are quite a few Asian students there. I think among the DCPS schools, next to Thomson, Seaton has the highest percentage. There are also many latinos. All the kids look very well behaved as I see them going to school every morning. I don't think it's such a bad option. Also, I think that the PS3 classes are in a separate "wing" from the rest of the school. I thought that was a nice feature to keep the older kids away from the younger ones.

We got into 0 of the 12, with our lowest waitlist # still being in the 90s! For us, we are going to do a private Pk3 that should work out pretty well. I don't think we'll do round 2. Honestly, identifying even 12 DCPS schools that would work for us was a challenge, so I just don't think other schools would work.
+1. Will keep kid in private preschool. The commute is longer, but don't have to deal with camps, dcps days off, etc.

My experience is that DC does PK really well. I would take a look at other schools. I doubt there are many schools with seats available, but there are probably schools with shorter waitlists.

But if you are using the DCPS as daycare, once you add in before/aftercare/camps, isn't the difference much less than $16k?

Agreed, I think what will get lost in the summary statistics of the common lottery, is that many, many parents would not have gone to the bottom half of their list. They would use a backup option or move. We got nothing, but would not have used half the list, most likely.
